Dangerous weather: Yellow code for 11 regions

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a warning for adverse weather conditions for May 28. A total of 11 regions in the country are under a yellow code for dangerous weather.

Intense rainfall with amounts of up to 30-35 liters per square meter, thunderstorms, and hail are forecast.

Strong wind and cooling

In four regions of Western Bulgaria, a yellow code has been declared for strong and gusty northwest winds. In the remaining seven regions of Central and Eastern Bulgaria, significant rainfall is expected.

  • The wind will strengthen and be moderate to strong, oriented from the northwest.
  • An influx of cooler air is expected.
  • The phenomena will be most intense in the Central and Eastern Pre-Balkan region.

Temperature amplitudes

The weather will be contrasting in different areas:

  • Northeastern Bulgaria: 22-23 degrees
  • Sofia: around 25 degrees
  • Southwestern regions: up to 32-33 degrees
