A man charged with trying to kill two brothers with a cleaver in the village of Dimchevo, near Burgas, will stay in custody. The appeals court said the Burgas Regional Court was right, and acted within the law, when it ordered him held in detention. The ruling is final and cannot be appealed.
The attack took place on 26 September 2026. Prosecutors say the man hit the brothers many times on the head and body with a cleaver. Victims and witnesses say he had armed himself with the cleaver and a taser before the attack. After the blows, the brothers fought back and tried to take the cleaver from him.
The man is charged with attempted premeditated murder of more than one person. The crime carries a sentence of 15 to 20 years in prison, life, or life without parole.
The appeals judges say there are reasonable grounds to believe the accused carried out the attack. The first court came to the same view after it reviewed the evidence.
The court sees a risk that the man could go into hiding or commit another crime. The judges named several reasons: the heavy sentence he faces, which could push him to flee, the way he carried out the attack, his criminal record, and a real chance that he could influence some of the witnesses.
The judges also took into account points in his favour. He has a job, a family, young children and a permanent address. The court said these do not outweigh the danger the act poses to the public and the other risks. At this early stage of the investigation, any lighter measure would not meet the aims of Article 57 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the judges ruled.
The accused was also hurt in the incident. A medical report from the neurosurgery unit of the University Hospital in Burgas says his injuries do not, for now, stop him from staying in custody.

димчево? сериозно ли, някой да знае колко души живеят там всъщност? не че оправдавам каквото и да било, разбира се, но все пак... такава случка в такова малко място, наистина е стряскащо.
