Carlos Contreras, a municipal councilor from VMRO, made serious criticisms of Mayor Vasil Terziev and his administration during a briefing on the budget of the Municipality of Sofia for 2025. Contreras accused the city's leadership of deliberately sabotaging the adoption of the budget and misinformation regarding the included objects and the corrections made.
According to Contreras, the administration deliberately does not want to have an adopted budget, even though until yesterday it had emphasized how important it is. He described as unfounded the criticism that the changes "break" the system, pointing out that it is a matter of corrections of around 30 million levs in a total budget of over 3 billion. Contreras firmly rejected the claims that important facilities such as kindergartens and schools have been removed from the budget, defining this as "absolute manipulation".
Boris Bonev from "Save Sofia" also commented that Mayor Terziev and his team deliberately distort the facts around the adopted corrections. Contreras also criticized the lack of communication from the administration, pointing out that VMRO submitted its proposals as early as May 13, and the claims that they were consecutively submitted at the last moment do not correspond to the truth.
In conclusion, Carlos Contreras called for broad support for the budget, emphasizing that Sofia cannot afford to remain without money for another half a year. He also defended the proposals made by VMRO, including more funds for the maintenance of the contact network, repair of tram trains and projects proposed by the districts.
