Today, Nikolay Dimitrov, the Mayor of Nesebar Municipality, launched the procedure for signing the first 24 contracts with users under the project "Nesebar is for cleaner air". The project, implemented with the financial support of the "Environment 2021–2027" Program, aims to reduce the emissions of fine particulate matter, some of which are a product of household solid fuel heating. This will be achieved by replacing wood and coal appliances with environmentally friendly systems - air conditioners, heat pumps, pellet equipment.
Mayor Nikolay Dimitrov emphasized that Nesebar Municipality encourages citizens to take advantage of the opportunity for free replacement of polluting appliances. The alternative solutions offered by the project are energy-saving and will lead not only to a reduction in harmful emissions, but also to a significant decrease in the overall labor intensity associated with the maintenance of wood and coal heating. According to Dimitrov, this is a step in the right direction, showing responsibility towards the future of children and the preservation of the pristine nature.
With the signing of the first contracts, the installation of air conditioners for the approved candidates in the first stage of the project begins. Within a few days, Nesebar Municipality will also announce the start of the second stage for receiving applications from households.
The campaign started in November, with a total of 428 households expressing a desire to replace their old appliances with eco-friendly alternatives. Of these, 271 have been approved for contract signing, and the evaluation process continues. The project will be implemented until 2029 and provides an opportunity for all eligible households to switch to environmentally friendly heating. The total value of the project is 9,268,718.03 BGN, of which 7,878,410.32 BGN are provided by the European Regional Development Fund, and 1,390,307.71 BGN - from the state budget of the Republic of Bulgaria. For 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028, two application rounds per year are planned - until the available financial resources are exhausted.
