The Municipality of Burgas is starting the realization of one of its most ambitious infrastructure projects – the construction of the Southern bypass of the city. The project includes the purchase of private lands, the construction of a new road junction and overpass, as well as a water facility. The project is expected to be completed by 2030, with work on the first stage starting this month.

At an extraordinary session, the municipal councilors in Burgas unanimously approved Burgas Municipality to purchase 11 private plots, through which part of the route of the Southern Bypass of the city will pass. Mayor Dimitar Nikolov stated that this had been quite a difficult task, as it was necessary to find all the heirs of these lands. He emphasized that these are the only plots through which it can be passed without conflict, and it was even necessary to investigate whether the new routes would not change the flight trajectory of the birds.

Nikolov thanked the councilors for their support and emphasized how important the construction of the Southern Bypass is, as it will become part of the national road "Border Checkpoint Durankulak - Burgas - Border Checkpoint Malko Tarnovo". He pointed out that the western arc of the Black Sea transport ring is the most difficult and unbearable task, as part of it is located in a war zone, but the war will end and this transport corridor will be built.

Since the decisions of the municipal councilors are with preliminary execution, the work on the first stage of the Southern Bypass will begin this month. The deadline for its implementation is one and a half years, with the expectation that the project in its entire scope will be realized by 2030.

The construction of the bypass will start from Kooperator Street. The project provides for the construction of a new road junction, which will connect to the road to Sozopol and the road to Tvardica. An overpass will also be built, which must overcome the elevation to the Burgabus depot. Rainwater drainage will also be installed. After the road junction to Tvardica is built, the most complex part of the project for the Southern Bypass will begin - the construction of the water facility.

No serious traffic difficulties are expected during the implementation of the project. Where the breakthrough of Kooperator Street will be made, there is no intense traffic, and there are internal streets leading to the Burgabus depot that can serve the neighborhoods during the construction work. When building the road junction to Tvardica, a detour route will be created to minimize the inconvenience for travelers.
