Another crash happened today, shortly after 4.20pm, at the junction of Trakia boulevard and Episkop Konstantin Preslavski street in Burgas's Slaveykov district, where there is still no traffic light, city councillor Daniel Ivanov said.
Traffic police came to the scene, directed traffic and dealt with the crash. There were more officers than usual in the area, and tension was high in the neighbourhood.
The junction is one of the busiest and most dangerous in Burgas. A person died in a crash at the same spot last year, but there is still no lasting fix.
Residents of Slaveykov have asked for a traffic light since 2012. In May this year they sent a formal request to Burgas council again. A traffic study of the junction is already done and has been agreed with the traffic police.
Ivanov was at the scene when the crash happened. He said the sight was telling, even shocking, because yet another crash had happened. He said children, elderly people and mothers with prams cross at the pedestrian crossing all the time, and he believes the traffic light should be built at once.
Ivanov said he will push for firm deadlines so the issue does not remain just talk.
Now everyone is waiting for the final opinion of the Burgas council's commission on transport and road safety. Work on building the traffic light should start after that.
