The Council of Ministers has submitted to the National Assembly a bill to amend the Law on the Provision of Digital Content and Digital Services and for the Sale of Goods, through which Bulgaria transposes Directive (EU) 2024/1799 on promoting the repair and extending the life cycle of products. The project must be adopted by July 31, 2026, and its first reading has already been included in the parliamentary agenda.

The motives for the document state that manufacturers of specific categories of goods, for which repairability requirements exist under EU law, will be obliged to provide repair services and ensure the availability of necessary spare parts and accompanying information. At the same time, the legislative changes aim to stimulate repair activities both within the warranty period and after its expiration.

An important focus is the introduction of the right of consumers to be informed about the option to choose between replacing a product and repairing it. In the event that the customer chooses a repair, the legal warranty is extended by one year. These steps aim to establish repair as a preferred alternative to purchasing new goods.

The new rules for extended warranties and product repairs will directly apply to all consumers shopping in the retail network across Burgas.
