Over 130 Fires Extinguished in 24 Hours, Two People Injured

The number of incidents in the country remains high, with firefighters responding to nearly 200 calls for incidents in the last 24 hours. From the official report of the General Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection (GDFSCP) at the Ministry of Interior, it became clear that a total of 135 fires were extinguished. The information was announced on the ministry's website and is current as of 6:00 AM this morning.

Although numerous outbreaks were brought under control, the tragic toll includes two people who were injured in the incidents. These cases are a reminder of the risks faced by both citizens and the fire department crews themselves.

Detailed statistics reveal the distribution of damages

An analysis of the data shows that 31 of the fires caused direct material damage. Among them, residential buildings were the most frequently affected with seven registered cases, which raises questions about home security throughout the country. Fires also broke out in three industrial buildings, three auxiliary, temporary, or flimsy structures, as well as in nine vehicles. The damage to the environment and the economy is also serious, with one fire in forest areas and four in agriculture.

Despite the large number of incidents, fortunately, 104 of the fires were without material damage. However, the statistics show a worrying trend for the spread of fire in open areas – 54 fires were registered in dry grass, forest litter and shrubs, three in stubble, and 40 in landfills and waste. This data highlights the serious problem with careless attitudes towards nature and the observance of fire safety measures.

Rescue operations and technical assistance

GDFSCP teams are not only engaged in extinguishing fires. In the last 24 hours, 33 rescue and assistance operations were also carried out. Three of them were in traffic accidents, and one was related to a domestic or industrial incident. A huge part of the operations – 29 in number – were for providing technical assistance, which illustrates the wide range of tasks that firefighters perform.

Unfortunately, in the busy daily life of firefighters, ridiculous incidents also occur. Eight false calls were registered, which not only waste resources but also put crews at risk while they are traveling to a fake signal instead of responding to a real danger. These cases call into question the responsibility of some citizens towards the emergency services system.
