The government approved €1,105,841 today in compensation for the families of 1,739 children who did not get a place in a state or municipal kindergarten, its press office said.
The money goes to the budgets of four municipalities: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Rodopi.
They will use it to cover what parents paid between 1 July and 14 September 2026.
The compensation is for families of children aged 3 up to the start of first grade. Families get the money when a state or municipal kindergarten or school turns a child away because it has no free places.
The government also approved money under the same scheme at the end of August. It then set aside €1,165,064 for 1,997 children from the same four municipalities, who also missed out because no places were free.
