Bulgaria's minimum wage will be €660 from 1 January 2027, the government has decided. Labour and social policy minister Natalia Efremova outlined the changes to incomes and benefits.

On 20 October, Efremova told Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) that the figure could top €660 if extra revenue comes into the budget. For now, the decision is €660.

How it all started: Minimum wage could top €660 if state revenue rises, says Efremova

The maximum insurable income is due to go up by €100. Efremova said higher minimum and maximum limits bring more money to the State Social Security (DOO) fund, but not enough.

"Unfortunately, these limits are not enough, because the rise is not in very big steps," the minister said.

The DOO budget is in deficit. Efremova said the limits go up only as far as people and business can bear. The gap will instead be filled through tighter checks, higher revenue from social security contributions and a fight against the grey economy.

Maternity pay in the second year is due to rise to €450 from the current €398. The benefit for a mother who goes back to work is due to go up from 50% to 75% of that amount.

The Swiss rule will apply to pensions from 1 July.

The government is preparing a package against fake TELK decisions. They will be issued under new rules, and the percentage of reduced capacity to work will be set in a different way. Efremova said the package must stop fake decisions and keep support for people who need it. The aim is "to guarantee that people who need support will get it in full, and even at a higher level given their needs," the minister said.

Next year, the new TELK rules are due to start, along with changes to the Personal Assistance Act, which are being drafted.
