Ministry of Interior breaks up drug distribution group known as the "Druzhba dealers"

Seven people were detained for participating in an organized criminal group involved in drug distribution in Sofia. This was announced to journalists on Wednesday evening by the deputy director of the GDBOP, Senior Commissioner Darin Kostov. According to him, the group was known among law enforcement officers as the "Druzhba dealers".

The arrested individuals operated mainly in the territory of the capital's "Druzhba" district, as well as in several neighboring areas. In the course of the investigation, two depots were located and dismantled – one located in a residence, and the other in garages.

Two depots for supplying distributors

"This is not about ordinary distribution, but about distribution depots. Several distributors were being supplied from one of the depots," explained Senior Commissioner Kostov. During the searches, various types of narcotic substances were found in significant quantities, including cannabis and synthetic drugs.

Part of the distribution was organized through a channel on the "Telegram" application, but investigators have yet to clarify the details surrounding the group's online activity. Some of those detained are well-known to the Ministry of Interior for similar crimes, Kostov further specified.

Spotted near schools and a warning to parents

The seven knew each other, and according to data in the case, some of them were spotted in the vicinity of schools. This further increases the alarm surrounding the influence of such groups on minors.

The GDBOP issued a recommendation to parents to carefully monitor their children's behavior, the time they spend on the internet, as well as the people they communicate with online and offline.

Over 100 detained since the beginning of the year

Senior Commissioner Kostov pointed out that since the beginning of the year, over 100 people have been detained in 36 separate operations against drug distribution in the country. He emphasized that the actions of the services are part of a broader, specialized police operation by the Ministry of Interior, aimed at limiting the drug market.

Today's operation was carried out jointly by teams from the GDBOP and the "General Directorate of National Police". Work on the case continues, with charges pending to be filed and the full scope of the network connected to the "Druzhba dealers" to be clarified.
