Young man found dead on Vitosha, authorities investigating whether he was attacked by a bear

A man has been found dead in the Vitosha area, with initial reports suggesting a possible attack by a wild animal, although this theory has not been definitively confirmed yet.

According to initial data, the tragic incident occurred on the concrete road above the "Ofeliite" hut, in the area of the "Vitosha" Nature Park.

It later became clear that the theory of a bear attack cannot be confirmed unambiguously at this stage and remains the subject of an investigation.

The Metropolitan Directorate of the Interior confirmed that a body was found near the "Rudnichar" hut.

The discovered body and initial observations

According to information from the scene, the body is that of a man dressed in hiking attire, with good mountain gear.

Part of his face is heavily disfigured, which has fueled suspicions of an animal attack.

Witnesses say that after being attacked, the man tried to defend himself with a stick.

A report about the incident was made to the 112 emergency line, after which an ambulance team and a police patrol from the 6th District Police Department were sent to the scene.
