Dealing with the state could become quick, easy and simple for people and businesses by 2030. That's what innovation and digital transformation minister Ivan Vasilev said as he opened the SEE FORWARD SUMMIT 2026 in Sofia.
The first step comes by the end of this year, when Bulgaria's national European Digital Identity Wallet must be built. It will let people and businesses identify themselves to the state and deal with public offices through their mobile phones.
Vasilev said his ministry has reorganised its work so public money gets spent with clearer aims. He said he's sure the digital identity wallet will open the door to online public services, and added that he wants to work with businesses to make more services available to people, and make them easier to use.
As minister, his goal is to create more chances for business to grow in Bulgaria, which he called a country of opportunity. He said digital transformation only works when the state and businesses move in the same direction and the rules are clear, so the whole market gets a fair shot, not just a few players. He told the audience his ministry is their natural partner.
Vasilev also said that just as Bulgaria's physical connectivity still falls short, there are gaps and shortfalls in digital connectivity too.
The forum is being held at the Planet Schwarz Tech Theater in Sofia and is organised by the Association for Innovation, Business Services and Technology (AIBEST). Business leaders, tech-sector figures, investors and officials gathered at the international meeting to discuss the competitiveness of Bulgaria and southeast Europe, along with digitalisation, investment, artificial intelligence and technological change.
