The Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP) has begun inspections of gas stations across the country. The directive has been issued to all CCP branches—both in Sofia and outside the capital—as announced by CCP Chair Maya Manolova on her Facebook profile.

According to her, the scope of the inspections is broad. They include all types of establishments, ranging from individual gas stations to large chains, both large and small. Checks are being conducted in cities as well as in more remote areas.

"We are investigating the unjustified increase in pump prices for basic fuels. I expect interim results next week," Manolova added.

She noted that the findings of the inspections will be made public.

In addition to gas stations, the CCP will also address the unjustified price hikes for food and over-the-counter medicines. The Commission will also monitor for unfair clauses in utility and mobile service contracts. The Chair further announced that they will also be looking into the conduct of debt collectors.
