CPC and NRA Conducted Inspections in Establishments: 34 Violations

Over the past few days, the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC), jointly with the National Revenue Agency (NRA), conducted increased inspections in public catering and entertainment establishments throughout the country.

A total of 146 inspections were carried out in restaurants, cafes, pastry shops, and other commercial establishments within the framework of the operation, with 34 violations found - nearly a third of all inspected establishments.

The control was aimed at compliance with the requirements for providing clear, accurate, and correct information to consumers, as well as with the rules related to the introduction of the euro. Among the most frequently found violations are incorrect currency conversion and lack of dual price labeling, increased prices, lack of or expired categorization of establishments, lack of announced prices and weights in price lists, as well as unannounced working hours.

During the inspections, the CPC requested information on the prices of offered goods and services for previous periods for subsequent analysis of the presence of unjustified price changes.

The Commission states that all actions provided for in the law will be taken against traders who have been found to have committed violations. Inspections will continue regularly throughout the country with the aim of preventing unfair practices and preventing unjustified price increases.

BTA reminds that on February 11, the chairman of the CPC, Alexander Kolyachev, announced during a hearing in Parliament that since the beginning of the period in which the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria is in force, the Commission has carried out nearly 7,000 inspections, around 700 acts have been drawn up, and over 170 penalty decrees have been issued. According to him, the fact that only 10 percent of the inspections carried out by the CPC end with identified violations means that the market is calm, stable, and the transition to the new currency is going even better than expected.
