Acting Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva held a coordination meeting in Burgas to assess the institutions' preparedness for the 2026 season.

The Minister of Tourism, Irena Georgieva, held a working meeting in the Burgas Municipality building with representatives of the local authorities and all control institutions involved in the preparations for the upcoming summer tourist season on the South Black Sea Coast.

Minister Georgieva stated that the South Black Sea Coast has all the prerequisites for a strong tourist season, provided that good coordination between institutions is maintained.

She emphasized that a successful summer season can be achieved through a responsible approach from all stakeholders - local authorities, business, and state institutions. Reservation data at this stage is positive, showing a growth of about 3 percent. The Ministry of Tourism has intensified marketing activities in key markets such as the Czech Republic and Poland.

Key focuses in the preparations

  • Safety and order: Burgas Ministry of Interior plans to command police officers from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania for reinforced prevention.
  • Healthcare and hygiene: RZI-Burgas confirmed that the quality of the seawater is within norms, and the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) will intensify inspections in approximately 1,500 facilities.
  • Infrastructure and transport: The renovated Burgas Airport is ready for a larger flow, and municipalities are working on improving road traffic and maritime connectivity.
  • New regulations: The introduction of a new European regulation for the registration of short-term accommodation facilities is upcoming.

During the meeting, preparations were also discussed for Bulgaria hosting the international cycling competition Giro d'Italia 2026, which will pass through the country from May 8 to May 10, 2026.
