The repair activities on the Danube Bridge near Ruse continue according to schedule. In the last week, 16 new reinforced concrete panels were produced, bringing the total number to 518 since the start of the construction and installation works. In the 320-meter section, where work is currently underway towards Bulgaria, the sidewalk block, the old asphalt pavement, and the waterproofing on the road slab have been removed. The restraint systems, the parapet, and the lighting columns have also been dismantled.
In the coming days, it is planned to complete the removal of the old sidewalk block and to dismantle the joints, the old drainage, and the drainage system. Compromised surfaces will be prepared for shotcreting, and sandblasting of the steel structure of the facility will be resumed.
The activities on the Danube Bridge are carried out daily during daylight hours, with traffic passing in both directions in the lane where no work is being done. The route on the Bulgarian territory of the Danube Bridge, which is part of Road I-2, has a total length of 1.057 km. Since its commissioning in 1954, 70 years ago, no major overhaul has been carried out.
The Road Infrastructure Agency calls on drivers to comply with the parameters for the admissibility of passing vehicles, as well as the speed limit of 20 km/h. Oversized vehicles can cause damage to the already repaired section and lead to additional, unforeseen activities.
Up-to-date information on the repair activities can be found in the special section "Information on the repair of the Danube Bridge" on the website of the Road Infrastructure Agency.
