The prices of fish and fish products in Burgas before St. Nicholas Day are moving in a wide range. Both more affordable species for a few leva and rare delicacies for over 40 leva per kilogram can be found in the markets.

  • Atlantic bonito: 12-14 BGN/kg
  • Goby: around 15 BGN/kg
  • Bluefish: around 30 BGN/kg (larger up to 45 BGN/kg)
  • Turbot: 40-45 BGN/kg
  • Karagöz: 15-16 BGN/kg
  • Skate wings: 12-13 BGN/kg
  • Carp (cleaned): around 10 BGN/kg
  • Garfish: 13-14 BGN/kg
  • Mejdi: 6 BGN/kg
  • Sea Bream: up to 17 BGN/kg
  • Shrimp (fresh): 18 BGN/kg
  • Trout: 12-15 BGN/kg
  • Ecuadorian shrimp (cooked): around 20 BGN/kg

Tips from merchants for fresh fish:

  • Clear and protruding eyes
  • Shiny and firmly attached scales
  • Firm and elastic meat
  • Characteristic, slightly sea aroma
  • No slimy surface or change in the color of the gills (bright red/pink)
