Bulgaria and Slovakia discussed an energy memorandum of understanding that covers nuclear power, natural gas supplies and renewable energy, the Energy Ministry said.

Energy minister Iva Petrova met Slovak deputy prime minister and economy minister Denisa Sakova in Prague. The talks were held during the 19th European Nuclear Energy Forum and focused on signing the document.

Most of the time went to nuclear power. The two sides spoke about closer partnership on new nuclear capacity and about sharing experience in building it. They also discussed how to buy nuclear fuel from more suppliers and how to decommission nuclear facilities.

Petrova said both countries have built up energy expertise and share similar strategic priorities. "Our close cooperation has real practical value for guaranteeing energy security in Central and Southeast Europe," she said. She added that working together helps meet climate goals smoothly and eases high energy prices in the EU, which households also feel in their bills.

On gas, the talks covered commercial cooperation between Bulgargaz and Slovakia's SPP: access to liquefied natural gas facilities, storage and routes for cross-border supplies. Both countries take an active part in the Vertical Gas Corridor initiative.

The Bulgarian delegation included Svilena Nikolova, a member of the board of directors of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant, Miroslav Damyanov, a member of the board of directors of Kozloduy NPP – New Build, and ministry officials.
