Bulgaria's food safety agency BFSA has refused entry to the EU market to a 10,960 kg shipment of carrots from Turkey, the agency said. The whole batch will be destroyed.
Lab tests found pesticide residues above the maximum levels allowed by the rules.
Inspectors found the problem during stepped-up checks on fresh fruit and vegetables on the Bulgarian market.
The agency said the checks will continue so that food that does not meet safety requirements does not reach consumers.
