The automobile manufacturer "Dacia", owned by the French group "Renault", is introducing a large-scale program for digitization and automation of the production process at its plant in Mioveni, Romania. This transformation is already having a serious impact on hundreds of workers in the enterprise.
In response to the growing digitalization in the automotive industry, the company announced the possibility of voluntary resignation of employees until July 1, 2025. Those who decide to terminate their contracts by June 20 with the last working day on June 30 will receive generous severance pay, in accordance with their length of service in the plant.
According to Romanian media, the amounts range from 24,000 lei (4,741 euros) for workers with less than 2 years of service, to 200,000 lei (39,516 euros) for those with over 16 years of experience. This financial compensation is designed as compensation for employees affected by the transition to automated production lines.
The Mioveni plant, managed by Renault since 1999, has been producing cars since 1968, including the iconic "Dacia 1300" and "Dacia 1310" models, which became emblematic of socialist Romania.
The mass departure of workers from the plant is a clear signal of the rising social and economic changes that digitalization and industrial automation are bringing not only in Romania, but across Europe.
