Road accidents took the lives of two people, and 37 were injured in the last 24 hours. The road accident report, published on the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reveals a grim picture, after a total of 26 serious incidents were registered within a single day.
Statistics for Sofia and the rest of the country
Police and rescue teams were once again mobilized to deal with the consequences of the many incidents that occurred throughout the country. An additional look at road safety in the capital shows that 34 minor accidents have been registered there. The serious statistics for Sofia also include three serious incidents, in one of which one person was injured.
The accumulation of incidents over the last 24 hours follows a worrying trend that has been observed since the beginning of the month. According to data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 518 road accidents have occurred this month, claiming 33 victims and leaving 687 injured.
This statistic fits into an even larger and darker picture since the beginning of the year. From January to the present, the number of registered accidents has reached 4305, in which 270 people have died and 5414 have been injured. These figures highlight the persistent and serious problem of road safety that authorities and the public face daily.
Victims on the road
One of the victims of the latest incidents is a 19-year-old driver who died in a serious accident that occurred on Friday night. The tragic incident happened on the road between the villages of Yavornitsa and Klyuch. A group of people gathered at the scene of the accident to observe the work of the teams, while rescuers and police tried to secure the area. The death of the young person once again puts the focus on the question of responsibility on the road and the danger that lurks for drivers, especially in the early hours of the day.
