The weather on June 19 in Bulgaria will be typical for early summer – with plenty of sun, high daytime temperatures, and only isolated short-lived showers and thunderstorms. Data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology and operational forecasts show a stabilization of the weather following the passage of the latest cold fronts and a return to maximum values around and above 25–27 degrees in the lowland areas.
It is expected that sunny or slightly cloudy weather will prevail across most of the country, with more significant development of cumulus clouds in the afternoon over certain mountain ranges. Short rain showers are not excluded there, but without the danger of prolonged precipitation. The wind will be most noticeable along the Black Sea coast and in the open fields of Eastern Bulgaria.
Weather in Burgas and the region
For June 19, the forecast for Burgas indicates mostly sunny and warm weather, with favorable conditions for the beach and walks along the coastline. In the morning, temperatures will be around 17–18°C, and in the afternoon they will reach about 26°C, with the maximum temperature in the city and along the coast staying in the 25–26°C range.
During the day, cloudiness will be variable, but mostly insignificant, without significant conditions for precipitation. The probability of a short local rain in the Burgas lowlands is low – around 10–15%, and according to synoptic models, the day for Burgas specifically is expected to be dry and sunny.
The wind along the coast will blow from the northeast to the east, with an average speed of about 4–6 m/s in the city and up to 7–8 m/s in the open parts of the shore. Gusts at noon and in the afternoon may temporarily reach about 10–11 m/s, which will create a feeling of cooler weather by the sea, despite the actual temperature.
The sea water temperature along the Southern Black Sea coast and in the waters off Burgas in mid-June usually hovers around 21–22°C, and current measurements for the last few days confirm values around 22°C in the Burgas Bay area. Sea swell will be slight to moderate – around 2 degrees, with no trend towards a sharp increase.
Given the combination of stable weather, good visibility, relatively warm sea water, and moderate wind, the preliminary assessment for swimming conditions at the Burgas beaches on June 19 is for a green flag. Nevertheless, following the instructions of the lifeguards is recommended, especially in the afternoon hours when the wind may temporarily strengthen and create a stronger current in certain sections of the beach.
Weather conditions in the rest of the country
Sofia and the region
In Sofia and Western Bulgaria, June 19 will be a warm and mostly sunny day. Minimum temperatures in the metropolitan region will be around 15–16°C, and daytime maximums will reach 26–27°C. In the morning hours, a sunny sky will prevail with good visibility, while in the afternoon, cumulus clouds will develop over the mountains west of the capital.
The probability of short-lived afternoon showers over the Sofia field is moderate – around 30–40%, and the rain, should it occur, will be local and brief. The wind will be light to moderate, most often from the northwest or west, with a speed of about 2–4 m/s. There are no sea waters in the Sofia area, therefore a flag assessment does not apply, but the conditions for walks and outdoor sports are good.
Eastern and Western Bulgaria
In Western Bulgaria, the day will be typically summer-like – with plenty of sun before noon and cloud development in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures in the lowlands and large cities (Vidin, Montana, Pleven, Vratsa, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad) will be between 26 and 28°C. The probability of short but intense afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the southwestern regions is around 40–50%, mainly in mountain basins and around Rila and Pirin.
In Eastern Bulgaria (including Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol, Shumen, Dobrich) the weather will be more stable. Here too, maximum temperatures will be in the 27–29°C range, and the probability of precipitation is lower – around 20–30%, mainly for short afternoon rains around the Balkan Mountains. The wind in the eastern regions will be more noticeable – a moderate northeast wind, with speeds often around 5–7 m/s, and over 8–9 m/s in open fields.
In the interior of the country, there is no direct sea swimming, but near water bodies (dams, rivers) increased caution is recommended due to still variable water levels and colder currents compared to the sea.
Weather in the mountains
In the mountainous regions on June 19, it will be relatively warm for the season, with good conditions for tourism until noon. At an altitude of 1200 m, the maximum temperature will be around 18–20°C, and at about 2000 m – around 11–13°C. The morning will be mostly clear, and in the afternoon, cumulus, and in places cumulonimbus, clouds will develop.
The probability of short-lived afternoon precipitation with thunderstorms over Rila, Pirin, the Balkan Mountains, and the Rhodopes is significant – around 50–60%, especially in the southern and central parts. The wind on the ridges will be moderate to strong, from the north-northeast, with speeds of 6–10 m/s, and in high open parts – with gusts up to 12–14 m/s. There are no official sea swimming zones in the mountains, but swimming in mountain lakes is not recommended due to the low water temperature and health risks.
Black Sea coast
Across the entire Bulgarian Black Sea coast, June 19 will be a warm, mostly sunny day, with stronger winds in southern and eastern exposures. In the northern part (the region of Varna, Balchik, Shabla), maximum air temperatures will be around 24–25°C, and in the southern part (the region of Burgas, Nessebar, Sozopol, Primorsko, Tsarevo) they will reach 25–26°C. The morning will be cooler, with minimum values of 17–19°C.
The temperature of the sea water along the northern coast in mid-June is usually around 19–21°C, and along the southern coast – around 21–22°C. The swell will be slight to moderate – around 2 degrees, which may increase slightly in the afternoon hours, especially on open beaches with direct exposure to the northeast wind.
The probability of precipitation along the coast is low – around 10–20%, mainly for short local showers in the interior, which rarely reach the beaches themselves. The wind will be a moderate northeast wind, with speeds around 5–8 m/s, with individual gusts on open capes exceeding 9–10 m/s.
Under these conditions for the majority of beaches along the Black Sea, including the Burgas area, the preliminary safety assessment for swimming is a green flag – suitable for swimming and water sports for people without health problems. In places where the wind temporarily strengthens or there are stronger coastal currents, rescue teams may switch to a yellow flag, especially in the afternoon hours and for smaller children or less experienced swimmers.
Despite the favorable forecast, tourists are urged to monitor the signage on the beach and current information from lifeguards, as local conditions (underwater pits, currents, changes in wind strength) can quickly change swimming safety.
