Sofia - An ambitious energy efficiency project will transform the appearance of our capital in the coming years. One hundred and thirty multi-family residential buildings in Sofia will be thoroughly renovated with funds from the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). This was revealed during a working meeting between Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Dora Yankova and representatives of 14 Sofia district administrations.
The program will be implemented in two stages, with the first stage envisaging the renovation of 40 buildings by the end of June 2026. The remaining 90 will be renovated in the second stage of the project. This large-scale initiative is part of the government's efforts to improve the energy efficiency of the country's housing stock and enhance citizens' quality of life.
We managed to save the European funds for building renovation and save national resources to invest in a new energy efficiency program. It is expected to start within two months
Deputy Minister Yankova stated to those present. She emphasized the importance of clearly distinguishing between different energy efficiency programs to avoid confusion among citizens and the administration.
During the meeting, numerous technical and administrative issues related to the program's implementation were discussed. Special attention was given to adhering to the set schedules and overcoming potential problems in the implementation process.
Deputy Minister Yankova called on district mayors for active participation and communication with citizens:
The ministry and the mayors are in the same boat in implementing the program, and our goal is for the money to reach the people and change their quality of life. People will remember you for a lifetime because you've changed their homes, their standard of living, so be among them, help them, and respond to their questions
Local authority representatives expressed gratitude to the ministry for good communication and support in resolving emerging issues. This dialogue between central and local authorities is key to the successful implementation of the project.
We remind you that in mid-July, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov announced that the RRP funds for energy renovation of housing are secured. Part of them will remain in the ministry, and another part will be transferred to the Bulgarian Development Bank after an agreement with the European Commission.

This represents a significant investment in improving housing conditions and energy efficiency in the country, which will contribute to reducing household energy costs and improving overall quality of life.
