March comes with strong cinema premieres in Bulgaria – from dramas and science fiction to horror comedies, and cinemas in Sofia and Burgas are preparing for full halls.

After the long winter, March always brings a feeling of a new beginning – also in the cinemas. This year, the month comes with a combination of long-awaited premieres, auteur cinema and titles that promise to bring the audience back to the halls en masse. In Sofia and Burgas, the programs of the big chains and smaller halls are already filling up with new films, and viewers have a reason to plan movie nights in advance.

Big premieres in Bulgarian cinemas in March

The premiere calendar for March 2026 in Bulgaria is saturated with titles from different genres. Among them stand out the dramatic thriller "Dreams", the sci-fi "Project Hail Mary" and the horror-comedy "They Will Kill You".

"Dreams" is presented as a drama with romantic and thriller elements, with the participation of a stellar cast. The film promises to combine an intimate story with tension and strong performances – a title that will attract lovers of more serious cinema.

The sci-fi "Project Hail Mary" comes with the ambition to be one of the events of the month. The story of a mission in deep space, in which the stakes are the survival of humanity, is typical cinema for the big screen – with scale, effects and a strong dramatic core.

For those who love dark humor, "They Will Kill You" brings an unusual combination of comedy and horror. The film plays with the rules of the genre and is aimed at an audience that is not afraid to laugh at absurd and tense situations.

Sofia: premieres, IMAX and festival cinema

In Sofia, the month will be particularly dynamic. Large multiplexes such as "Cinema City" and "Kino Arena" will focus on the wide distribution of the March premieres, including in IMAX and 4DX halls. The capital offers the opportunity to watch "Dreams", "Project Hail Mary" and "They Will Kill You" in the largest halls with modern sound and picture.

Other titles will also be included in the programs of the large cinemas in Sofia – family animations, romantic dramas and action films. Viewers will have a choice of new films almost every weekend, some of which will be shown with subtitles and dubbing to be more accessible to different audiences.

In addition to the commercial premieres, the capital will also offer a different cinema experience. Halls such as "Odeon" and other art cinema spaces traditionally include festival and auteur titles, documentaries and special screenings in their evening program. Thus, within a few days you can combine a big Hollywood hit with chamber European cinema.

Burgas: the seaside town with a view to the big screen

Burgas may not have as many halls as Sofia, but in March, the cinema offerings here will also be diverse. Local cinemas follow the national premiere calendar, so "Dreams", "Project Hail Mary" and "They Will Kill You" will also reach the seaside town, often in the first days after the official premiere.

Burgas cinemas usually combine popular blockbusters with Bulgarian productions and festival titles that arrive through various cultural initiatives. The city has accumulated experience in working with film crews, and the municipality actively encourages the filming of Bulgarian films on local locations and supports projects that present Burgas on the international stage.

For the audience, this means another reason to enter the halls – not only to watch world hits, but also to recognize the streets, buildings and atmosphere of their city on the big screen. March, with the first warmer evenings and the lively cafes around the cinemas, is shaping up to be an ideal moment for such cinema outings.

Fans of Bulgarian cinema: what to expect

In parallel with the big international titles, Bulgarian cinema continues to seek its place in the cinema programs. Some of the domestic productions, filmed in recent years, are gradually reaching the wider audience – often first in Sofia and soon after in Burgas.

Comedies, contemporary dramas and films with clearly recognizable local stories give viewers the opportunity to see on the screen themes close to their daily lives – family relationships, small town stories, people at a crossroads. When such titles enter the program alongside the big foreign premieres, the choice in the hall becomes richer and more human.

March as an occasion to enter the cinema again

After years in which streaming platforms have accustomed people to watch premieres from the couch, March 2026 gives a good reason to remember what the feeling of the real cinema experience is. Big screen, general laughter or bated breath with strangers in the hall, the sound of popcorn in the intermission – all these "details" are part of the magic that is missing at home.

For Sofia and Burgas, the month comes with a promise of full evenings, shared emotions and conversations after the screening – whether "Dreams" met expectations, how tense "Project Hail Mary" is, or how far the black humor goes in "They Will Kill You". And the best thing is that everyone can find "their" film – whether they are a fan of art cinema, science fiction, or are just looking for a good reason to go out with friends.
