20.01.2026 | Region

Varna will develop a plan for new water supply and sewerage infrastructure in the southern regions. The working group, including the Water and Sewerage Company, Varna Municipality, and other stakeholders, will prepare a roadmap with clear steps and deadlines. The project is necessary due to the exhausted capacity of the existing network and investment intentions in the area.

A working group will be created to develop a roadmap for the construction of new water supply and sewerage infrastructure in the southern districts of Varna. This decision was made at a meeting between “Water Supply and Sewerage – Varna“ (Vik – Varna) Ltd, the regional governor, “Bulgarian Water Holding“, Varna Municipality, and business representatives.

The working group will be formed by order of Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and will start the processes for the implementation of the activities laid out in the General Urban Plan of the municipality. According to Eng. Veselin Rusev, manager of “Vik – Varna“, solving the problem is necessary due to the exhaustion of the capacity of the existing network in the “Asparuhovo“, “Galata“ and Zvezditsa village neighborhoods. Currently, the southern districts are supplied from one pipe with insufficient diameter, and the sewerage network is overloaded.

Lozko Lozev from “Bulgarian Water Holding“ emphasized the need for an action plan, determining the necessary capacity for the future, preparing projects, and seeking funding. It is recalled that by May 2026, the large project for the water cycle of Varna, financed under the “Environment“ program, must be completed.
