A 21-year-old man is in custody after police found the body of a missing man of the same age in the Harmanliyska river on Thursday, 15 October, the Interior Ministry press office said.

The victim had been tied up. A forensic doctor found he was strangled before he went into the water.

The missing man, 21, was from the village of Chernogorovo and lived in the villa area of Harmanli. He was reported missing on 13 October. His body was found after a search of the area.

Police found that the two men were together the day before the missing man was put on the national wanted list. They had been walking near the "Prikazkite" complex outside Harmanli. The investigation shows the detained man came back alone and tried to sell the missing man's mobile phone.

The man was detained on suspicion of a serious crime. The supervising prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Haskovo charged him and ordered him held for up to 72 hours.

Officers from the regional Interior Ministry directorate in Haskovo and from the National Police Chief Directorate in Sofia took part in the search and the operation, along with divers and firefighters.
