Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh underlined that Bulgaria's accession to the US Visa Waiver Program is a strategic priority of the Bulgarian government. He explained that this is not just an administrative goal, but a key step towards facilitating contacts between people, promoting business exchange, and developing tourism between the two countries. Minister Borshosh pointed out that achieving this goal requires joint efforts from institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations, drawing on the experience of countries like Croatia and Poland.
The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the participation of the Consular Service of the US Embassy in Bulgaria. Its main goal was to provide answers to key questions about the visa issuance process and Bulgaria's inclusion in the US Visa Waiver Program.
Dimana Dramova, a special coordinator at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained the steps taken so far in the process of including our country in the Program and emphasized the role of the VizaAcademy.com website, developed by the Ministry, which provides up-to-date practical information on applying for visas.
Leonard Leid, a consul at the US Embassy in Sofia, provided valuable guidance for applicants, emphasizing the importance of timely completion of the DS-160 forms and calling for honesty and transparency in the process. He noted that B1/B2 visas are an excellent opportunity to visit the US, but do not allow for work, and pointed out that over the past three months, approximately 5,000 visas have been issued under the Work and Travel program, and over 14,000 B1/B2 visas have been issued in the past year.
The event was also attended by numerous representatives of the tourism industry, who play a key role in the preparation and informing of applicants for B1/B2 visas.
