Zhelyazkov on Personal Life and Legislative Changes in the Penal Code

According to the Bulgarian constitution, the private life of every citizen is inviolable. In the spirit of this fundamental principle, the state bears the responsibility to create conditions for its effective observance. This was emphasized by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, commenting on the proposed changes to the Penal Code by the "There is such a people" (ITN) party. The aim of these legislative initiatives is to criminalize the dissemination of information about the private life of individuals without their explicit consent.

The public and legal experts often ask how exactly constitutional texts and guaranteed rights of citizens are reflected in specific legislation. Prime Minister Zhelyazkov added that the answer to this question is entirely within the competence of the National Assembly. The Parliament is to decide how these legal norms will be formulated and how they will be applied in practice.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov and European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christoph Hansen, participated in the official opening of the reconstructed M-1 Main Canal, a key element of the "Trakiec" irrigation system in Haskovo.

Returning to the topic of the proposed legislative changes, the Prime Minister clearly stated that the debate on this issue should be held in the National Assembly. "When I read the texts, I did not get the feeling that it was about freedom of speech, but about disclosing personal data," he said. This comment clearly shows that the government attaches great importance to the protection of the private lives of citizens, while emphasizing the need for careful consideration of the proposed legislative changes.
