A yellow warning for strong wind is in force today in the Burgas region, with gusts up to around 24 metres a second — close to 86 km/h.

In Burgas itself the wind will blow from the northeast at 14 to 19 metres a second. Clouds will break up for sunny spells, with a high around 21 degrees and a low between 13 and 15 — the official forecast for the city says 15.

The wind will be felt right along the southern Black Sea coast, from Chernomorets and Sozopol to Primorsko, Kiten and Tsarevo. Gusts will be even stronger where the coast lies open. It will also be windy along the northern coast.

Driving will be harder, and anything not tied down could get blown away, so people on the coast should watch out for trees and temporary structures. In the sunny spells, 21 degrees is warm enough for the beach, but the wind makes today better suited to a short walk by the water.

The sea stays rough. On Tuesday the water in Burgas was around 22 degrees with waves at force 3, and in Ahtopol 21 degrees with waves at force 4. Before going in, check how rough the sea is and look at the flag on the beach.

Over eastern Bulgaria, clouds will build and turn heavier at times, bringing rain, mostly in the far eastern areas, where the wind will blow moderate to strong from the north. Today and on Thursday the rain will fall mainly in the far east, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology.

Today's improvement doesn't mean a long dry spell is starting. More rain is expected in Burgas on October 1, with temperatures around 20 degrees. On Friday, October 2, the chance of heavier rain is greater, with temperatures much the same.

In western and central Bulgaria the day will be sunny and almost calm, and that holds through Thursday too. Lows and highs: Sofia 7 and 18, Plovdiv 13 and 21, Varna 14 and 21.

Temperatures will differ little along the whole Bulgarian coast, but compared with inland areas, the sea brings stronger wind and more cloud. Being near the sea will keep nights warmer, while mornings will be cold in the western valleys.
