Yellow warning for wind and waves along Black Sea coast, Burgas set for 23C

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a yellow warning for strong wind and rough seas along the whole Bulgarian coast on Monday, September 28. Temperatures in Burgas will reach around 23 degrees, and clouds will build in the afternoon, bringing light rain in places.

Winds from the north and northeast will pick up, with gusts reaching around 72 km/h in places. Waves at sea will run 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale.

The sea itself is around 21 to 22 degrees, almost as warm as the air for part of the day, but Monday is not a good day for swimming because of the wind and waves. Where lifeguards raise a red flag or ban swimming, their instructions should be followed, no matter how warm it feels or how calm the coast looks.

The first half of the day at the coast will be sunnier and calmer, with clouds building and thickening around and after midday. Night-time temperatures in the city will stay between 14 and 16 degrees.

The forecast is similar for Chernomorets, Sozopol, Primorsko, Kiten and Tsarevo: a calm, sunny morning, with clouds increasing from midday. Forecast models show highs of around 22 degrees in Chernomorets and a low of 13, with a north wind of around 8 m/s.

Elsewhere in Bulgaria, the day starts sunny, with change arriving from eastern Bulgaria in the afternoon in the form of clouds and rain in places. Highs will range between 19 and 24 degrees, lows between 9 and 14, and around 19 in Sofia.

Rain will also fall in the mountains in the afternoon, turning to snow above around 2,300 metres. At 1,200 metres it will be around 14 degrees, at 2,000 metres around 7, with a moderate to strong wind from the north-northeast.

In the evening and overnight into Tuesday, the rain will spread from eastern Bulgaria into the interior and reach central Bulgaria.

On Tuesday, Burgas will turn cooler, down to around 19 degrees, with a chance of showers. On Wednesday temperatures will climb back briefly to 21 or 22 degrees, and heading into early October, models point to more rain and cooler weather again.
