Burgas region is under a yellow warning for rain and strong wind on Tuesday. An orange warning was first issued, but the latest data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) does not support it. The orange warning for the region stays in force only for dangerous conditions at sea. See our original report: Orange warning for heavy rain and strong wind in Burgas region on Tuesday.

In Burgas the wind will blow at 14-19 m/s (50-69 km/h), with gusts of up to 24 m/s. Forecasters expect 20 to 35 mm of rain in 24 hours, or up to 30 mm in 6 hours.

The sea will be rougher than first announced. Waves will reach force 4, and force 5 south of Burgas. The first forecast said force 2-3.

The sky along the Black Sea coast will be cloudy, with a moderate north wind that is strong at times. Some places will get heavy rain in the afternoon. Temperatures on the coast will reach 15-17C, and the sea water is 20-21C.

Wind like this can damage buildings, uproot trees and injure people with flying objects. On the roads, drivers will face poor visibility and aquaplaning.

Rain will fall across the whole country, starting as early as overnight. The largest amounts are expected in Central Bulgaria. In central and eastern areas the rain will be heavy in places, while in the southwest it will ease and stop. In the eastern half of the country the north wind will briefly pick up, but otherwise stay moderate.

Night temperatures are between 7 and 12C, with about 9C in Sofia. By day, temperatures will be 10 to 15C, about 11C in the capital, almost unchanged.

The mountains will be under cloud, with wind and rain. The Central Balkan range, the Rhodopes, Strandzha and Sakar will get the most water. Snow will fall above 1,500 m, and in the Rhodopes above 1,200 m. It will be about 6C at 1,200 m and about 1C at 2,000 m.

According to the first information, orange warnings were issued for seven regions in all. Besides Burgas, they covered Varna and Yambol for rain and wind, and Shumen, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Smolyan for rain alone. Almost all other regions are under a yellow warning, while Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Pernik and Sofia city have no warning.

An orange warning for rain means people should be ready to protect lives and property. Flooded homes and roads are likely, along with transport problems and cuts to power, communications and water. Partial evacuation is possible.

On 1 October Burgas region was under an orange warning for strong wind and rough seas, with gusts of up to 90 km/h and waves of more than 3 m along the coast. The far southeastern parts of the region also had a yellow warning for heavy rain at that time.
