A powerful earthquake, registered in Turkey around 1:00 PM today, was felt in several cities in Southern Bulgaria, including Burgas.
BurgasMedia readers reported feeling the tremor on the upper floors of buildings in cities such as Burgas, Plovdiv, and Svilengrad. A second tremor was also reported in Burgas shortly after the first.
The European Seismological Centre initially determined the magnitude of the earthquake to be 6.0 on the Richter scale.

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAN) estimated the strength of the quake at 5.7 on the Richter scale, with an epicenter 23 km southwest of Silivri, Turkey.
