North wind with gusts up to 32 km/h on the roads

Saturday in Burgas is dry and clear, but cold. The temperature fell to 2 degrees overnight, and at 8 o'clock the thermometer shows 5. The wind blows from the north at about 19 km/h, at times up to 32, and because of this even around noon it feels like 6 degrees at most outside.

Cars that spent the night outdoors will have wet or lightly frosted windows. Drivers should clear the whole windshield, not just a small peephole in front of the steering wheel. The north wind pushes tall vehicles and vans most strongly where there are no buildings: along the Atanasovska Kosa toward Sarafovo and the airport, and on the road to Sozopol near Poda, where the road runs between the lake and the sea.

The sun rises at 06:49 and stays low all morning. Anyone entering the city from the direction of Dolno Ezerovo will be driving into it, so keep sunglasses handy. Sunset is at 16:57 and by around 17:30 it is already dark, so the trip home from the market or from visiting friends will be by headlights.

On scaffolding, on rooftops and at market stalls the wind is felt most strongly in the morning. Gloves and a hat are needed at least until 11 o'clock. It will not rain all day, the probability is zero, so painting, concrete work and yard cleaning can go ahead as planned.

From 5 degrees in the morning to 10 around 2 p.m.

The morning is damp, with 79 percent humidity. By 14:00 the temperature reaches 10 degrees, humidity drops to 46 percent and the air is dry and clear. The warmest point of the day is 11 degrees, one degree below Friday, when the wind was weak and from the southwest.

By 20:00 it drops back to 5 degrees with 62 percent humidity, and the sky stays clear until the end of the day.

The ultraviolet index is 2 and no sunscreen is needed. The air is excellent, the European air quality index is 18, so for running and walking it would be hard to find cleaner air.

The north wind and the birds over Vaya and Atanasovsko

The Burgas lakes lie on the Via Pontica migration route, along which birds from Northern and Eastern Europe travel south along the Black Sea. In early November the autumn migration is nearing its end and the birds that will stay here for the winter gather on the lakes. The north wind is a tailwind for them, and on a clear day like today flocks can be seen from far away.

On Vaya from the Dolno Ezerovo side and on Mandrensko Lake near Poda you can see Dalmatian pelicans, which winter on the Burgas lakes, pygmy cormorants, grey herons and flocks of ducks. On Atanasovsko Lake, in the salt pans along the road to Sarafovo, stand the pink flamingos, which have not flown away for years, even in winter.

The best time for watching is around noon, when it is warmest. You need binoculars, a thermos and a warm jacket, because on the open shore near Poda the north wind bites harder than between the apartment blocks. Birds should not be scared, so it is best to stay on the paths and not approach the water.

A hooded jacket and gloves for Saturday outdoors

For a walk in the Sea Garden or on the Bridge, a warm jacket with a hood that protects the ears from the wind is enough. Children on playgrounds should wear a hat and gloves, because it feels like about 6 degrees even in the sun.

For running, it is most pleasant around noon and farther inland from the shore, for example in the "Ezero" park. Cyclists on the seaside promenade will ride north into the wind, and on the way back it will be at their backs, so they should not waste their energy at the start.

On Sunday it is clear and dry, from 0 to 9 degrees, and the wind turns to the southwest and weakens to about 12 km/h, with gusts up to 20.
