Rain from morning until noon, north wind with gusts up to 33 km/h
Tuesday starts with rain, and it won't be brief. About 3.8 mm will accumulate over the whole day, with a 58 percent probability in the morning. This is the first wetter day after two mostly cloudy days in which almost nothing fell. An umbrella is a must right from the start, and cars along Transportna Street and the ring road will be driving on wet pavement.
The wind is northerly, around 15 km/h, occasionally reaching 33. It is weaker than yesterday, but combined with the rain it makes the 17 degrees at noon feel like exactly 17 and not a degree more. In the morning at 8 o'clock the thermometer shows 16 degrees, it's drizzling, and humidity is 78 percent. By noon it gets a bit warmer, 17 degrees, the rain continues with a lower probability, around 48 percent, and humidity drops to 68. In the evening at 8 it remains at 17 degrees, now just cloudy, with only a 10 percent chance of drops. If you can move your walk to after seven, you'll get away without getting wet.
The UV index is 4, moderate, but with dense cloud cover and rain you won't need sunscreen. The air is clean, the European index shows 20, which is excellent for late September.
Water 22 degrees, waves up to a meter, north wind in the bay
The sea is 22 degrees, warm for the season, and hardened swimmers can still take a dip. The waves reach up to one meter, which for Burgas Bay is no longer calm water. The north wind is pushing the swell from the open sea toward the northern beaches, so around Sarafovo and at the Northern Beach it will be more unpleasant than below the Sea Garden.
For fishermen with small boats, the day is not good. With a one-meter wave and gusts over 30 km/h, heading out from Chengene skele and from the fishing port in Sarafovo is unpleasant, and visibility in the rain is poor. Anyone casting from the pier or the breakwater should expect murky water near the shore due to the churned-up waves. The north wind in late September usually brings cooler water into the bay, so these 22 degrees are unlikely to last long.
The same date in 2016 and 1996
For September 29, the usual afternoon temperature in Burgas is around 20 degrees, so today's 18 is slightly below normal. In 2016 on this date it was 24 degrees with not a drop of rain, while in 1996 it was only 15 degrees with 1.6 mm of precipitation. The closest to today is last year: 11 to 18 degrees and 3.6 mm of rain. There have been quite a few wet September 29ths in the archive; dry years like 2016 and 2021 are more of an exception.
Hooded jacket and caution on the wet asphalt
Dress in layers: a T-shirt, shirt or sweater, and a hooded jacket. An umbrella will turn inside out in the 33 km/h gusts in open areas around the Bridge and Lake Burgas, so a hood is more reliable. Shoes should be closed, as there will be puddles on the sidewalks in the afternoon.
Running along the sea is possible, the rain is light and there's no thunder, but the path along the promenade will be slippery on the tiles. Run slower and watch your step. Anyone cycling to work should set off with a fender and lights, because under cloudy skies the morning stays dark almost until sunrise.
Drivers should leave more distance along Stefan Stambolov Street and on the exit toward Sredets, as the first rains after dry days bring the oil up to the surface of the asphalt. Children should go out in a waterproof jacket, as outdoor PE classes today are unlikely to take place.
Wednesday without rain, but with stronger wind
On Wednesday no rain is expected, the sky remains cloudy, 15 to 20 degrees, and the wind shifts from the northeast and strengthens to 23 km/h with gusts up to 49.
