The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria has created a Coordination Center in connection with the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. The Center has been formed by order of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and under the leadership of Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev.
The main purpose of the Coordination Center is to monitor the development of the situation in real time, to ensure constant communication with the diplomatic and consular representations of Bulgaria in the region, as well as to coordinate actions with other competent institutions in order to guarantee the safety of Bulgarian citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in constant contact with international partners and monitors all aspects of the situation, including possible risks to Bulgarian citizens and interests.
Bulgarian citizens present in the affected areas are called upon to maintain contact with the nearest diplomatic mission of the Republic of Bulgaria and to follow the instructions of the local authorities and the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides several communication channels through which Bulgarian citizens in need of assistance can contact the Situation Center Directorate: telephones, fax, and e-mail. In addition, a 24-hour telephone number for the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Islamic Republic of Iran has been provided.
It is reported that the airspace of Iran is currently closed, so evacuation from the country by air cannot be carried out at this stage.
