On May 27, 2025, an open math lesson in the 7th A class, led by teacher Desislava Tsvetkova, was held at the Dimcho Debelyanov High School in Burgas. Math experts from the Regional Education Inspectorate (REI) in Burgas, the Municipality of Burgas, and the "Education without Backpacks" association were present at the lesson. The lesson was implemented with the help of the innovative learning platform Khan Academy.
The lesson began with the introduction of a real practical problem related to an architectural triangular window. This served to motivate the students and link mathematical knowledge to real life. Then the teacher used a video from the Khan Academy platform to review the important theoretical part.
The main part of the lesson was dedicated to the active participation of the students. They worked in teams on practical tasks, discussed their results, and presented them to the class. This gave them the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge and showcase their abilities. The students also solved an online test on the Khan Academy platform, which allowed the teacher to receive timely feedback on the progress of each student.
At the end of the lesson, the teacher asked questions to discuss the students' experience and the practical applicability of mathematical knowledge. The lesson is part of the "Better at Math with Khan Academy" initiative, which is supported by the Municipality of Burgas and the REI Burgas. This program aims to help students improve their math skills through modern online resources. Enrollment of schools for inclusion in the program for the new school year is already underway.
