The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) announced the three nominees for European Prosecutor from Bulgaria: Dimitar Belichev, Mihaela Raidovska, and Plamen Petkov.

The decision was made by the special commission appointed by the outgoing Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev and chaired by Deputy Minister Stoyan Lazarov. The commission heard all the candidates for the position – a total of six.

Dimitar Belichev is a European Delegated Prosecutor from the Plovdiv Regional Prosecutor's Office. Mihaela Raidovska is also a European Delegated Prosecutor from the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. Plamen Petkov is a prosecutor at the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The commission believes that the three presented themselves most convincingly and meet the requirements for a European Prosecutor. Their names have been sent to the Minister of Justice, who will submit them for approval by the Council of Ministers. The candidacies are then sent to the EU for selection. European Prosecutors are appointed by the Council of the EU for a six-year term.

The new mandate is expected to begin at the end of July this year.

Dimitar Belichev stated that the efficiency of the interaction between the European Public Prosecutor's Office and national investigating authorities should be increased and the volume of detected crimes should be increased.

Mihaela Raidovska said that she will work to increase the efficiency of the office of the European Delegated Prosecutors in our country and will insist on filling the vacant positions.

Plamen Petkov outlined three main challenges for the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
