Alarming Statistics on Traffic Accidents in 2025: Ministry of Interior Intensifies Control and Launches Mass Safety Campaigns

According to data from the Ministry of Interior at the end of September 2025, traffic accidents in Bulgaria continue to be a serious national problem. In the first 9 months alone, over 4,120 accidents were registered, with 551 people killed and more than 5,900 injured – this is indicated by the official bulletins and analyses of the institutions.

The main causes, according to experts, remain speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, overtaking in risky areas and not maintaining a safe distance. The Ministry of Interior reports an increase in aggressive behavior on the road and deaths in rural areas and on main arteries.

In order to limit the negative trend, the police are intensifying daily checks – in 2025, over 900,000 tickets were issued for speeding, mobile cameras are being installed, new devices for alcohol and drugs are working, and the number of patrols on risky routes is increasing.

By the end of the year, the Ministry of Interior, the Road Safety Institute and other non-governmental organizations are conducting national campaigns such as "Road Safety Days", "Set an Example" and actions in schools for discipline and attention at pedestrian crossings. On the initiative of the state agency "Road Traffic Safety", road sections with increased risk are being updated and restrictive signs and LED lighting are being introduced.

"Our goal is every day without victims on the roads," said the Ministry of Interior and calls for public responsibility for a change in the driving culture.
