Thomas Tuchel to remain in charge of England until at least Euro 2028

England national team head coach Thomas Tuchel commented on his future at the helm of the team following the 1-2 loss to Argentina in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

"We continue to act according to the contract until the home European Championship. I am looking forward to that, although it is difficult to look that far ahead right now," Tuchel stated at the post-match press conference, leaving a clear message that he has no intention of leaving his post prematurely.

The German specialist took over the England national team in January 2025 and became the third foreign manager in the history of the "Three Lions" after Swede Sven-Göran Eriksson (2001–2006) and Italian Fabio Capello (2007–2012).

Before taking charge of England, the 52-year-old coach managed London's Chelsea, with whom he won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.

Under Tuchel's leadership, England has played 21 matches so far, with the team recording 16 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses. The German's contract with the English Football Association is valid until the summer of 2028.

The 2028 European Championship will be held in the UK and Ireland, which makes the tournament a kind of "home" forum for England and further increases the expectations for Tuchel's work in the coming years.

After the elimination by Argentina in the semi-finals, England will play against France in the third-place match of the 2026 World Cup. The match is scheduled in Miami on the night of Sunday, July 19, at 00:00.
