A revolution in road traffic control
On the initiative of Minister of Transport Georgi Peev, key institutions are joining forces to create a unified real-time information exchange system. The goal is clear: more effective control and a sharp reduction in road traffic accidents.
"Worse than a lack of data is having a lot of it and not knowing what to do with it," stated Minister Peev.
What are the new measures?
- Fast data access: Information from toll cameras will reach the Ministry of Interior and other authorities in just three seconds.
- Heavy goods vehicle traffic control: Use of 272 control points and 100 embedded scales to monitor loading and violations.
- Combating unscrupulous companies: Introduction of a risk profile for each vehicle to stop abuses involving hidden license plates, which cost the budget 40 million BGN annually.

The new network will involve the Ministry of Interior, the Customs Agency, the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration," and the National Revenue Agency (NRA). A concrete action plan, including the necessary legislative changes and financial estimates, must be prepared by the end of August.
