Typhoon Bavi weakens over Eastern China
Typhoon "Bavi" has weakened to a strong tropical storm after making landfall in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang. Nevertheless, the storm continues to bring torrential rains and winds reaching speeds of up to 101 km/h.
Over 2.6 million people have been evacuated from high-risk regions in the provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, and the metropolis of Shanghai.
Damage and consequences
- Taiwan: At least 134 people have been injured in incidents caused by the strong winds.
- Transport: Pudong and Hongqiao airports in Shanghai have canceled over 650 flights.
- Infrastructure: In the city of Yueqing, over 1,300 trees have been knocked down, with many of them uprooted.
