Typhoon Bavi hits China: More than 2.6 million people evacuated

Typhoon Bavi weakens over Eastern China

Typhoon "Bavi" has weakened to a strong tropical storm after making landfall in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang. Nevertheless, the storm continues to bring torrential rains and winds reaching speeds of up to 101 km/h.

Over 2.6 million people have been evacuated from high-risk regions in the provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, and the metropolis of Shanghai.

Damage and consequences

• Taiwan: At least 134 people have been injured in incidents caused by the strong winds.
• Transport: Pudong and Hongqiao airports in Shanghai have canceled over 650 flights.
• Infrastructure: In the city of Yueqing, over 1,300 trees have been knocked down, with many of them uprooted.

According to China's National Meteorological Center, the storm continues to move northwest, with authorities maintaining a high state of alert due to the danger of flooding.
