High-Level Meeting on the Black Sea - Aegean Sea Transport Corridor in Sofia

A four-party meeting between Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and the European Commission, dedicated to the Black Sea - Aegean Sea corridor, will take place today at 9:00 a.m. in the “Einstein” hall of the Grand Hotel “Millennium” in Sofia, announced the press center of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The host of the forum is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications in resignation Grozdan Karadjov. 

The ministry points out that the meeting marks the beginning of the practical work on the memorandum of cooperation for the Black Sea – Aegean Sea transport corridor, signed in December 2025 in Brussels with the support of the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas. 

During the forum, the possibilities of financing the projects through European funds or public-private partnerships will be discussed, as well as the mechanisms by which the three countries can jointly apply for European support, and the participants will also consider specific parameters of the projects and deadlines for their implementation.

The press center adds that the second main topic of the meeting will be overcoming the administrative and procedural obstacles that traditionally delay the realization of large infrastructure projects. The stages of the already planned initiatives and possible practical solutions related to permitting regimes, public procurement, construction standards, and operational compatibility will be discussed.

The meeting will be attended by the Alternate Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Greece Konstantinos Kiranakis, the State Secretary of Infrastructure and Transport of Romania Ionut Cristian Savoiu, the coordinator of the European transport corridor Baltic Sea - Black Sea - Aegean Sea Mario Mauro, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov, the Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov, as well as representatives of the European Commission and financial institutions.
