Leaders of 30 countries are gathering in Romania for a summit dedicated to providing security for Ukraine after a truce.

Summit in Support of Ukraine

The Romanian capital is hosting a historic summit, bringing together leaders from about 30 Western countries in support of Ukraine. At the center of attention is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose presence underscores the criticality of the moment. The main goal of the forum is to forge stable security guarantees for Kyiv in case a truce with Russia is achieved, while also putting pressure on the United States to provide key support.

Uncertainty and Diplomatic Horizons

The tension is palpable, as hopes for a quick end to the conflict are fading. This pessimism was particularly amplified after the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska – an event that raised many questions about the future direction of negotiations. Nevertheless, amid the general apprehension, the American president sent an optimistic message on the eve of Thursday's talks, stating:

"We will handle this"

America's Role and the "Coalition of the Willing"

Donald Trump was scheduled to speak by phone with the leaders of the so-called "Coalition of the Willing" after the conclusion of the meeting in Paris. French officials emphasized that for many of the European partners, it is essential that any military guarantee for Kyiv also include an "American safety net". This comment clearly shows that European powers see US support as an irreplaceable pillar of collective security. Just a month ago, Trump had stated that the US was ready to help "presumably" with air support – a promise that Western allies are eagerly awaiting to be confirmed. This waiting demonstrates how critical Washington's role is in future security agreements.
