The situation in Tsarevo municipality is calming after a cyclone brought heavy rain overnight, and the downpours are slowly easing, the municipality said. More than 120 litres per square metre fell overnight near the villages of Velika and Fazanovo, where the rain was heaviest.

Because of the heavy rain and strong north wind at sea, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) earlier today issued a red warning for Tsarevo, Primorsko and Malko Tarnovo. The warning for dangerous rain in the area was raised from orange to red.

The red warning for heavy rain stays in force for the municipality. As a precaution, the BG-Alert system has also been activated at municipal and regional level, the municipality's press office wrote on its Facebook page.

The cyclone passed over the whole municipality overnight. Over the past 24 hours, 70, 100 and 120 litres per square metre fell in different settlements. No areas are flooded.

No road is closed. Rivers and streams can be crossed, have not burst their banks, and the water is flowing to the sea. Water from the reservoirs is also draining normally.

The two reservoirs above the village of Lozenets were empty but filled up within a few hours. The municipality said water is now being released from them without risk.

Interior Ministry and municipal teams watched the critical spots all night, and the municipal teams are on standby and checking dangerous places. Interior Ministry officers, municipal staff and the electricity distribution company were on duty round the clock. The municipality thanked them for their work.

The strongest gusts came on the night of 3 November and this afternoon, and the rain did not stop during the day.

Tsarevo municipality describes the situation as calm and says it is returning to normal. It urges residents and visitors to take care and to keep away from bodies of water. It asks drivers to be extra careful.

"Monitoring continues through the night, please be careful," the municipality said.
