Tuesday, October 6, is sunny and warm across most of Bulgaria. Burgas will see 9-11 degrees in the morning, rising to around 20 by afternoon. Chernomorets, Sozopol, Primorsko, Kiten, Tsarevo and Ahtopol will see similar readings, with afternoon temperatures along the whole coast ranging from 19 to 21 degrees.
Inland, highs will mostly run between 20 and 25 degrees, reaching 24-25 in some spots. Sofia will see around 7 degrees in the morning and up to 23 in the afternoon. Plovdiv will start at about 9 degrees and climb to 24. Varna will see 10 degrees in the morning and 20 in the afternoon. Burgas and Varna will have almost identical daytime temperatures.
Bulgaria's weather institute issued a yellow warning for frost yesterday in 11 regions. Mornings are much colder in the western valleys and on the high plains than on the coast, with frost covering the ground in some areas. The gap between day and night temperatures there can top 15 degrees.
Thicker clouds will move in briefly during the day, but the weather won't turn worse. Winds will be lighter today than at the start of the month, and no rain is expected in Burgas. Last week, a strong northeast wind churned up the sea, but the coast is calm now, and daytime temperatures feel more like late September.
Sea temperatures along most of the southern Black Sea coast are still around 20 degrees, though they're gradually dropping. It's too cool now for classic summer swimming, but with sun, light wind and air temperatures around 20 degrees, a few hours on the beach can still be pleasant, especially around midday and in the early afternoon. It gets cooler in the morning and after 4-5pm. Swimmers should check the waves and the beach flag warnings before going into the water.
The warm weather will hold through Wednesday, October 7: Sofia should see around 23 degrees, Plovdiv around 24, and the Black Sea coast around 20. Burgas will start at about 11 degrees in the morning and reach around 20 again in the afternoon. No autumn cold snap is expected, at least until midweek.
