The Vice-Chairman of the BCCI, Dr. Vasil Todorov, emphasized the importance of good cooperation with embassies, stating that with the support of diplomatic missions, the BCCI successfully organizes various business-oriented events. The different services of the Chamber provided to businesses, as well as the activities of the BCCI as a nationally recognized employers' organization, were presented in detail. The system of regional chambers/chambers and industry organizations was also presented.
Ambassador Darmashena provided data on the trade turnover between Sri Lanka and Bulgaria, amounting to about 14 million US dollars for the previous year, which is insufficient from the point of view of the possibilities of the two economies. Sri Lanka is recovering rapidly from a recession in recent years, with the country recording economic growth of 5% for 2024.
During the conversation, the possible import of skilled labor from the Asian country was also discussed, as it has highly qualified personnel in various sectors of the economy. Issues related to the extremely long deadlines for obtaining work visas for foreign citizens were discussed, with the conduct of online interviews being able to significantly shorten the deadlines and facilitate the procedure.
At the end of the conversation, Ambassador Darmashena extended an invitation to Bulgarian companies to participate in the upcoming conference - Disrupt Asia 2025, which is of interest to technology companies and startups.
