Rumen Radev: Bulgaria's roads are a battlefield; priorities are fees, not human lives

The crisis on Bulgarian roads: The Prime Minister's commentary

The holiday season is in full swing, but Prime Minister Rumen Radev issued a serious warning to drivers: the roads in Bulgaria have turned into a "battlefield" where we lose human lives on a daily basis.

"There is no way to compensate in two months for long years of chaos, negligence, and systemic problems," the Prime Minister stated.

Main problems facing road safety:

• Poor condition of road infrastructure and theft during construction.
• Ineffective regulatory framework and formalistic driving courses.
• Lack of justice for blatant crimes on the road.
• Insufficient upbringing in the family and school.

The state's misguided priorities

Radev highlighted a serious imbalance in the regulatory bodies: while the "Road Transport Administration" employs only 124 people tasked with a huge volume of duties, 700 employees are engaged in the TOLL system. According to the Prime Minister, this proves that the state's priority is collecting fees, not the safety of its citizens.

Despite the difficulties, the state continues the fight against "road killers," but the Prime Minister emphasized that personal responsibility remains the only sure guarantor for survival.
