Deputy Minister Iva Petrova reveals Bulgaria's strategic vision for diversification of energy supplies through international cooperation and innovative infrastructure projects during an annual government conference in Athens.

In the context of contemporary global challenges, Bulgaria is developing a large-scale energy transformation strategy that emphasizes international partnerships and regional connectivity. During the 29th annual government roundtable organized by Economist Impact in Athens, Deputy Minister Iva Petrova presented the national perspective for energy sector development.

A key priority of Bulgarian energy policy is building reliable international connections that guarantee the security and accessibility of energy supplies. The strategy focuses on diversifying sources and creating multilateral communication channels between regional states.

Among the key strategic initiatives is the Vertical Gas Corridor project, which is considered an extremely important mechanism for ensuring energy diversification in Southeast and Central Europe. This project demonstrates Bulgaria's ability to be an active participant in regional energy transformations.

Despite existing good network connectivity in the electricity sector, the country continues to work on expanding interconnections with neighboring countries. Special attention is paid to green energy corridors and zones emerging in the region.

Ambitious plans include projects for transmitting clean renewable energy from the Caspian region to Europe. Bulgaria has the potential to play a significant role as a regional balancer, especially through the planned construction of four new pumped-storage hydroelectric power plants.

Deputy Minister Petrova emphasized that these initiatives go beyond technical infrastructure and represent a model for multinational cooperation. They encourage technology exchange, sharing of best practices, and deepening contacts between the public and private sectors.

An additional important element is considered the need to develop a flexible regulatory framework that supports the timely implementation of strategic energy initiatives in the interest of all consumers.

Bulgaria's energy policy is based on the principles of mutual trust, collective sustainability, and strategic partnership, positioning it as a significant participant in regional energy transformation.
