Greek companies show increased investment interest in Bulgaria, with key areas including renewable energy, industrial parks, information technologies, and startup ecosystems. This stems from an official analysis by the Trade and Economic Affairs Services (STIV) in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Geographic proximity and cultural similarities create a favorable environment for deepening economic cooperation between the two countries. Northern Greece emerges as a particularly dynamic market oriented towards the Balkan region, while Southern Greece represents a more challenging territory due to intense competition.

Promising product categories for Bulgarian exports include food and beverages, construction materials, furniture, information technologies, tourism and health services, textiles, and clothing. The Greek market values high quality, natural products, and competitive price levels.

Key trade events in the second half of 2025 include several international exhibitions. In Southern Greece, FOODTECH & GLOBAL PACK 2025 and XENIA 2025 stand out, while in Northern Greece, the Thessaloniki International Fair, FRESKON, and PHILOXENIA are leading.

The Thessaloniki International Fair gains special significance as it will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025. The event traditionally attracts over 200,000 visitors and represents an important platform for economic and cultural interaction.

Investment flows between the two countries are impressive. Greece establishes itself as one of the most significant foreign investors in Bulgaria with over 18,000 companies generating around 60,000 jobs and investments of 4.415 billion euros by the end of 2024.

Leading sectors for Greek investments in Bulgaria include metalworking, financial services, food industry, trade, real estate, textiles, and construction. Bulgarian investments in Greece are concentrated mainly in small and medium enterprises focusing on strategic infrastructure projects.

Bilateral trade demonstrates sustainable growth, reaching slightly over 4.7 billion euros in 2024 with a slight increase of 2.5%. Bulgarian exports to Greece amount to 2.2 billion euros, while imports exceed 2.5 billion euros.

Main export categories from Bulgaria include agricultural products, electricity, mineral raw materials, and timber. Imports from Greece are concentrated in petroleum products, natural gas, textiles, chemical materials, machines, and metals.

STIV experts forecast deepening economic partnership between the two countries, expecting expansion of investment opportunities and diversification of trade relations in the coming years.
